General Guidelines

Who can be involved?

  • This global event is open to all young people from various Christian Churches and Denominations worldwide.

  • Native speakers of languages other than English are welcomed. However, it must be indicated if an interpreter is needed for the day of the GYWF. 

  • GYWF targets individuals and youth groups in age categories of 12 years and under, 13  -19 years, 20 – 35 years and mixed/open groups (any age from under 12 – 35 years).

  • There is no limit to the number of persons participating in a group.

  • While this Ministry is non-competitive, children and youth ministry leaders have the prerogative to utilize whatever appropriate incentives may be deemed helpful or necessary to encourage participation and excellence in your group.

Definitions of Art Forms

Song – a short poem or other set of words set to music or meant to be sung. Any genre of music can be chosen. Examples include Reggae, Soca, Rap, etc.
● Participants can use accompanying music if they so desire.
● Accompanying music, whether soundtrack or live band, should be balanced evenly to ensure that the words are clearly heard.

Spoken Word, Poetry – is a poetic form that is meant for performance and incorporates the wordplay, alliteration, and intonation of ancient oral traditions. Often done individually or in pairs.

Recitation/Choral Speaking – Choral speaking ensemble speaking by a group often using various voice combinations and contrasts to bring out the meaning or tonal beauty of a passage of poetry or prose.

For GYWF “Recitation” refers to a solo or small group of four or less persons.

Word & Dance – Word and dance renditions must incorporate ministry of the Word using any of the above listed art forms, accompanied by appropriate worship or choreographic dance. 

Choice of Bible Version for Ministering

 The Bible versions permitted to be used are:
○ King James Version (KJV)
○ The New King James Version (NKJV)
○ Amplified Version (AMP)
○ New Living Translation (NLT)
○ English Standard Version (ESV)
○ Contemporary English Version (CEV)

Scripture Choice List

Choose any Scripture which you wish to use for your rendition from the Scripture Choice List according to your Age grouping and Artform category.

You can also choose any other portion of Scripture you prefer, even if it is not on this Scripture Choice List

Renditions

 ● For the Categories of Choral Speaking and Recitation, Participants must minister the Scripture strictly in accordance with the Bible Version chosen. No additions or subtractions to Scriptures are allowed. 

● For the Categories of Spoken Word and Song, Participants are allowed reasonable latitude once remaining faithful to the subject of the chosen Scripture text.

● Each rendition should be approximately five minutes more or less.

● Participants are not allowed to refer to any notes, digital media or printed materials during the presentation. All renditions in all Art Forms and categories must be done from memory.

● Participants in Global Youth WORDFest are invited to register, prepare, record in video and submit renditions during the period up to September 23rd 2024.
Multiple renditions from individuals and groups are welcomed. 

● Global Youth WORDFest will be pre-recorded. An appropriate venue or setting such as a church or similar place with suitable background must be used for your rendition. Bedrooms, studies, Living/Dining rooms or other such venues with inappropriate backgrounds are not considered to be suitable for ministering for GYWF.

Recording Specification and Submission

● Preferred Recording Specifications. 

1) Equipment: Use a smartphone or camera capable of recording videos with sufficient storage and battery.

2) Find a clean background, mount your device in landscape mode, and ensure good lighting.

3) Audio: Choose a quiet space, speak clearly, and consider using an external microphone if available.

4) Practice and record: Rehearse your content, aim for smooth delivery, and record your best takes.

5) Format and submit: Convert the final video to 720p HD (or higher) in MP4 or MOV format.

By following these 5 steps, you can record and submit a high-quality video for the GYWF Pre-recorded program.

● The edited programme of pre-recorded renditions will be streamed on social media on September 28th 2024.

Registrants Expected And Time

● Maximum Participation:  while our global vision for this Global Youth Word Festival is almost unlimited (hundreds, thousands and tens of thousands), the 24-hour time constraint limits participation to approximately three hundred (300) Registrants. (“Registrants” – each Item of participation whether by an individual or group).

● Time and length of GYWF would depend on the number of registrants; however, it is not intended to exceed 24hrs.
